There's been much hype surrounding solar panels. By installing these on your roof you can certainly do your bit for the planet and gradually reduce your energy related spending as well. In the long run, there is little doubt that this is an economically viable decision, but the problem is that there is a large upfront cost associated with solar energy installations. Even though there are government rebates available, it's still quite a commitment for the average householder, especially in this tighter economic environment.

There may be an alternative, though. It's possible in some areas to lease your solar panels and this idea seems to be spreading slowly throughout the industry. The idea is that you pay an upfront deposit at the beginning of the lease and then the panels are installed. On a monthly basis you would pay rent to the company that leases you the solar panels.
